Team Official Expedited Disciplinary Process

In 2026 Rugby Australia is trialling an expedited disciplinary process for match official abuse by team officials, as well as by players immediately before or after a match.

This applies to all competitions U13 and older which we appoint to (including Sydney Rugby Union, NSW Suburban RU, Sydney Junior RU and GPS/CAS/ISA.

Note this does not change how you should respond to match official abuse from non-players, i.e. involve the Ground Marshalls and/or Team Captains to manage the behaviour of their non-players. If the Ground Marshall is unable to control the behaviour of the person(s) you might stop the game until the person is removed / removes themselves, and/or the police are called to remove them. Match Officials should not be directly confronting people abusing them, lest it escalate the situation.
