Additional Monday night training sessions have been running in the lead-up to the 2025 season. These sessions focus on high-performance fitness, helping referees meet key fitness benchmarks and improve their movement and endurance on game day.
Led by experienced strength and conditioning coach Dean Morgan, who has worked with athletes across rugby and track and field, each session is tailored to the needs of the group. Training includes a structured warm-up, plyometric and change-of-direction drills, speed work, and conditioning, ensuring referees develop both physical capacity and agility for match-day performance. Attendees also receive a strength and conditioning program to follow in their own time, complementing the on-field training while reducing injury risk.
With strong attendance of 15–20 referees each week, these sessions also provide a great opportunity to train alongside peers, build connections, and learn from those officiating at higher levels. Further funding support from NSWRRA has also allowed us to secure Turruwul Park in Rosebery as a dedicated venue, with training running every Monday at 6:30 PM through to the end of the 2025 season.
Anyone keen to improve their fitness and train with their peers is encouraged to come along and join in.
